Food Security And Livelihoods

Food Security
And Livelihoods

Situation Analysis

In Pakistan, food security and livelihood (FSL) challenges persist due to factors like population growth, climate change, and unequal resource distribution. Around 18.3% suffer undernourishment, with 38.4% child stunting. Rural areas face food access issues due to poor infrastructure and frequent crop failures. Livelihoods, primarily agriculture-based, are hampered by low productivity and vulnerability to climate change. Structural inequalities, inadequate safety nets, and climate disruptions remain barriers.

FRDP’s Response

FRDP in partnership with its individual and institutional donors is trying to combat food insecurity and protect the most vulnerable families such as widows and orphans.

  1. Food Packs Distribution
  2. Hot Meals Assistance
  3. Empowering Kitchen Gardens

Food Packs Distribution

Every year, we arrange food distributions during Ramadan, Eid, and Qurbani, benefiting rural families. Our packs are tailored to local needs, providing essential food items in suitable quantities. We have organized food distributions of 2000 disaster-affected families at one place earlier this year. We also covered 20,000 families under WFP programme after floods last year.

Hot Meals Assistance

For disaster-affected families, we serve hot meals. We cook centrally or within communities, delivering to homes or organizing communal meals

Empowering Kitchen Gardens

With our water projects, we equip vulnerable families with seeds and tools. Collaborating with INGOs, we promote urban kitchen gardening initiatives.

Highlights of Collaboration: Addressing Urban Food Security and Climate Change

A collaborative initiative backed by German NGO, WHH, is providing essential support to 20 marginalized urban slums in Hyderabad. This endeavor focuses on bolstering both social and economic resilience, by imparting valuable skills to local communities and enhancing the physical infrastructure. Through these efforts, the project aims to enhance food security, elevate income levels, and empower the inhabitants of these underserved areas. The project also supports innovative and climate-resilient production, earning, and business methods in food sector.
